Professional Development Workshop for Teachers -- The Changing Face of Alabama's Schools Spotlight on Belgium

April 30th A one day workshop featuring experts from Belgium along with regional and national presenters on Belgium history and culture. All sessions are grade-level specific and feature hands-on activities that can be immediately taken back and used in the classroom. Teachers earn state-approved professional development credit hours and take away resource materials, including lesson plans and CDs.

“To Belgium and Back” – an artist exchange mini show between Birmingham and Belgium

  • The Naked Art Gallery

 The Naked Art Gallery is participating in an artist exchange mini show from April 15th to May 7th. This exhibit will feature several Belgian artists here in The Naked Gallery, while the work of several  Birmingham artists will be displayed in L'Art d'En Brasser in Brussels, Belgium.

His Excellency, Johan Verbeke was born July 9, 1951, in Ghent, Belgium. Verbeke had his first diplomatic posting to the United States in 1994, when he was named deputy chief of mission in Belgium’s Washington embassy. In 2000 Verbeke was named chef de cabinet, or chief of staff, for Belgium’s minister of European Affairs, and in 2002 he took a similar job for the minister of Foreign Affairs. He was appointed as ambassador of Belgium to the United States in 2014.
