International Business After Hours: International Terrorism Law and its Impact On Americans

This seminar includes a panel of law professors and an active participant of the FBI to provide an understanding of the various forms of terrorism, its impact on society, and how it can be combated.  The reception will be held prior to the presentations.

The Panel

Cassandra Adams  As the director of Samford University's Cumberland Community Mediation Center and Public Interest Program (CCMC/PIP), Cassandra Adams manages the community mediation center and the public interest/pro bono activities for the law school. The CCMC provides free and confidential mediation services for cases that are best resolved through facilitated dialogue and when the parties cannot afford the expense of a mediator. The PIP develops and coordinates pro bono and public interest activities for the law school, such as free senior citizen legal clinics, general assistance legal clinics and community service activities. 

Herman Rusty Johnson Professor H. Rusty Johnson began his position at Cumberland in the 2010 Spring Semester. Prior to joining the Cumberland faculty, Professor Johnson served as a Member and Associate Attorney from 2001 to 2009 for Wiggins, Childs, Quinn & Pantazis, LLC, a firm with offices in Birmingham, Alabama, and Washington, D.C. At the firm, Professor Johnson represented litigants primarily in class and collective actions, with particular emphasis on hourly wage, employment discrimination, ERISA, and international human rights litigation.

Phil Celestini Assistant Special Agent in Charge Phil Celestini is a 22-year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, entering on duty with the FBI in 1992. Prior to entering the FBI, Mr. Celestini served our nation as a United States Air Force intelligence operations officer and analyst, followed by a brief career as a Physical Security Specialist and Acting Director of Security at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Air Force Academy, and holds a Master of Science Degree in Public Safety Leadership. Mr. Celestini earned numerous Bureau commendations and community honors as a Special Agent, including being named “Federal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” by the local chapter of Optimists International in 2001. He was a long-time FBI SWAT team member and assistant team leader in North Carolina, and earned certifications as both an FBI firearms instructor and tactical instructor.
