This class is designed for art teachers, students of art or anyone wishing to learn more about the arts of China – Calligraphy and Brush Painting. Art Teachers will be invited through mailers and social media announcements to attend the workshop. A tour of the China exhibit will be provided prior to each session.

The sessions will consist of an introduction of the basic materials used in Chinese calligraphy and brush painting, such the different kinds of Chinese brushes and paper, ink and colors, and the seals used for different purposes. The evolution of the four styles of Chinese calligraphy will be explained as well as the unique and important connection between Chinese calligraphy and brush painting. All techniques will be demonstrated and explained, and then participants will have hands on practice under the guidance of the artist.

Dr. Lee-jan Jan, respected artist and scholar will be the guest artist and instructor. Jan studied under Fu Chuan-fu, T’an Shu, Chiang Shu-ch’ien and serves as Special Counselor to the America Asia Artists Association, New York since 2006. Jan is a retired professor from University of West Georgia. Chin Cheng Hung, Professor of Foundation Studies, Savannah College of Art and Design, recommended Dr. Jan, “Dr. Lee-jan Jan is not only a great artist, but also a great Chinese scholar.  He has been the president for both Chinese Writer Association and Chinese Artist Association in Atlanta. He has so much to offer and would be the best person to teach Chinese calligraphy and painting. I strongly recommend him.”
